Wilby High School Enters Electrathon Race… Again… with a Faster, Lighter Car
Waterbury, CT June 5, 2008 – The Technology Education Department at Wilby High School has entered their electric car in the CT Electrathon Race, at Limerock Racetrack, in Salisbury, CT. They competed against eight other alternative energy vehicles, and placed a VERY RESPECTABLE 4th within the composite division.
The students in the Design Engineering class had it confirmed that their designs, testing, and fabrication techniques paid off. Driven by two students, at almost 30 MPH around the track, the vehicle logged 93 laps. The car is of a new, unique design: a honeycomb, composite fiberglass, which vastly improved on the vehicle’s weight and handling. (Wilby took third place last year in the Novice Division.) One student remarked, “We’ve worked long and hard on this car. I knew we could make it.”
The efforts of the class continue to be supported by many sponsors within the Waterbury area including Traver IDC and the SMA. For more information, go to the Wilby High School Electrathon website at: www.wilbyelectrathon.org
