What a blast I had yesterday!
On Tuesday, November 29, more than 400 area high school students attended the Chamber's Manufacturing & Technology Expo at CoCo Key Water Resort, Hotel and Convention Center. The Chamber's Manufacturer's Council developed the expo to help address one of the most pressing concerns of the manufacturing community: The need to bring new workers into their trades.Students were engaged throughout their experience, with a presentation by featured speaker Harry Moser, founder of Reshoring Initiative, and meeting with representatives from more than 20 local manufacturers. They learned firsthand about the specifics of career opportunities in modern manufacturing, as well as the state-of-the-art technology and products produced locally.
Manufacturers enjoyed Moser's Keynote Address and an informal roundtable discussion during the afternoon. In addition to newspaper coverage of the event in the Republican-American, it was also featured during NBC 30's evening newscast.
It truly was a rewarding day. I'm confident that several students "saw the light" and will consider pursuing a career in the manufacturing sector as a result of the Expo!
