Field Service Engineer

Traver IDC, a Waterbury third generation family owned business, is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to join our team of Electro Mechanical professionals. As a full service electrical/mechanical engineering firm and energy service provider, we offer a unique combination of products and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Field work at customer locations will include, trouble shooting various kinds of motor driven capital equipment, testing, performing inspection and preventive maintenance services for equipment, repairing equipment and assisting in the upgrading of existing equipment.


  • CTE1 or E2 electrician license preferred.
  • BSEE, BSME or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of combined technical support, equipment trouble shooting and field services experience with large capital equipment.
  • Strong aptitude for and understanding of structural/mechanical equipment (including the ability to read, create, and understand technical (CAD) drawings, specifications and other documentation) for large, moving equipment, as well as comprehension of the maintenance and servicing of such equipment.
  • Experience with selection, sizing and troubleshooting of electrical controls, variable frequency drives, DC drives, motors, operators, switches, etc.
  • Should be familiar with PLC control systems and be capable of editing PLC ladder logic programming.
  • Must be able to work well with customers and their operators and engineers at their facility and if necessary work with third party contractors in the field.
  • The successful candidate must be capable of operating with a minimum of supervision, have strong problem-solving skills, strong computer skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work well with people.
  • Be willing to travel to customer job sites mostly in Connecticut.
