Sales Engineer

Traver IDC, a Waterbury third generation family owned business is seeking an experienced outside Sales Engineer to join our team. As a full service electrical/mechanical engineering, service and repair firm, we offer a unique combination of products and services in 5 separate value streams: motor repair and rewinding, electrical contracting services including new construction and troubleshooting, wholesale and retail electrical distribution, electrical engineering services including infra-red testing, AC & DC drive services, dynamic balancing, PLC programming, and CAD drawings; and energy service provider.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Field visits at customer locations promoting our 5 value streams to 1 or more vertical markets in the industrial sector. Meet or exceed sales goals to grow the assigned sales territory. Analyze the sales picture of your territory frequently to determine relative status and adjust sales activities accordingly.


  • Minimum of 5 years outside business to business sales experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years combined technical electrical/mechanical products and field services experience.
  • Must be willing to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the benefits of the company's products and services.
  • Must devote the time and effort necessary to be a success.
  • Experience with selection and sizing of electrical controls, variable frequency drives, DC drives, motors, PLC control systems, operators, switches, etc. is helpful.
  • Should be able to develop a highly respectable image of the company in the eyes of customers, vendors, and competitors.
  • Must be able to work well with customers and their operators and engineers at their facility and if necessary work with third party contractors in the field.
  • The successful candidate must be capable of operating with a minimum of supervision, have strong problem-solving skills, strong computer skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work well with people.
  • Be willing to travel to customer sites mostly in Connecticut.
