Platt Technical High School Wins Lean Award

On June 24th, Platt Technical High School Manufacturing Technology Program was selected for the GOLD Innovation Prize by the (CQIA) Connecticut Quality Improvement Award. The prize was in recognition for implementation of Lean Manufacturing Concepts on the shop floor to allow for improvements to the entire program and accommodate a larger population of students. The implemented plan centralized and condensed tool stores, relocated instructors stations to within the shop floor, reorganized all machine tools to open movement within the shop and built a digital classroom that ties all technologies within the dept. into one hub within the shop.

The effort supported the Lean Manufacturing curriculum offered in grades 11 & 12. The students designed planned and implemented some of the changes after completing the progressive levels of Lean training.
